1. Effective Leader Characteristics (15 points) (Recommended length 1 page).
a. List and describe what you feel are the main characteristics of a highly effective leader.
b. List and describe what you feel are the main characteristics of the worst leader. *Consider thinking of the best and worst leader you have worked with and then list and describe their characteristics – a paragraph for each is sufficient.
2. Self-Analysis (15 points) (Recommended length 1 page).
a. Considering the effective leader characteristics above, describe your greatest strengths.
b. Considering the worst leader characteristics above, describe your greatest weaknesses.
c. Provide an action plan – with a timeline – for what you will do to remediate your top weaknesses.
3. Leadership Values (20 points) (Recommended length 1 page).
a. Identify and describe your top five to seven leadership maxims or values.
b. Write these as though you are communicating your approach to leadership to those you would be leading. * For example values may include Respect, Authenticity, Balance, etc. So list these and then provide a description of each and how these apply to your approach to leadership.
4. Leadership Principles and Philosophy (30 points) (Recommended length 1-2 pages).
a. Using the above values, write the leadership principles (in detail) which you want to model and see in others.
b. This section can be written in the form of ‘I will’ or ‘I am’ statements; to describe your aspirations.
c. This section is actually your Leadership Philosophy. * For example in discussing the ethics you value this might be written in part as: … I will give feedback and my views to people when they take unethical actions or make mistakes…
5. Personal Idiosyncrasies (20 points) (Recommended length 1 page).
a. This part of your Leadership Philosophy may seem to be difficult or unneeded, but a leader needs to be able to articulate their expectations of what will be considered acceptable practice. One way to view this is to provide the things you like or dislike (aka pet peeves).
b. Try to include your top five likes and top five dislikes in this section with a brief example of each. *As an example one of these may be: Respecting others’ time during
